THROWDOWN!!!!!!!!!

we need to get the thursday throwdowns back into action. i miss the smell of sweat, pringles, and mountain dew on thursaday mornings as we debate and a few scream. those were the good old days. we should revive it with some conflicts based in the middle east, and some local issues as well. thoughts?

i think we should have a debate on gay rights. there seems to be alot of intolerance of sexual preferance at this school. mainly based twords gay men. i think that this debate would really get alot of it out there and help both sides of the argument get a better understanding of the other. take for example this morning. i had watched the movie milk last might and i said it was a good movie about civil rights. some kids (i wont say names brandon and sean) totaly shot the idea of the movie down because in the movie he is gay. that is what the whole movie is about. gay rights and civil rights.

thoughts?

Why gay rights, there are more important things in the world and in America to talk about.

Just because people do not support gays does not mean that we're ignorant or bad people.

i dint say that your ignorant or bad, i just think that we shouldnt be hateful of someone based on their sexual preferance. it may not apply to you but it does some people. and as for there being better issues in america i agree. but we also had debates on wasl and abortion and there are better topics than those. plus this has to do with the civil rights of a sub culture in america. why shouldnt they be able to maryy? god? thats not legit. sanctity of marriage? you can be married by elvis in vegas and there is a 50% divorce rate in our country. and people say that they just dont need it. well 80 years ago black people and wemon didnt need to vote either.

just my 2 cents

Mr. Kennedy, I feel your text is not hardly off-base, and I completely agree, though for the most part, people at our school seem to treat 'deviant' sexual preferances as a joke rather than something that is real and a problem for many individuals. I commend your try to bring this topic to light.

What about the pirates in Somalia? Believe me when I say this, I'm not trying to not talk about gay rights. I just want to talk about something I think is interesting and that won’t offend other people. But I do think that it is an issue that we should discuses later on. "just a bigger pool of stupid passing through" and "Whaleologist Doctor Ned Fadeley" (whom I think is not Ned Fadeley) should be more open to this issue, and put aside what they have learned from their parents or, maybe, their religion. You have to admit, the pirates in Somalia is an interesting conversation.

Unknown said...

yes but you cant say i dont want to do it not to offend people. thats the whole point is that it shouldnt offend people.

We Middle East Beasts Plays For Keeps, yoe foows said...

It offends me chip man. I find it very offensive just as you find one that gets married to a very young child, or one who marries their immediate family, like father and son getting married or grandma and granddaughter, mother and son.......this is not AMERICAN!
And I am most certainly Edmund Franklin Fadeley.....it is preposterous to say otherwise……hummmm.....krill…….hungry……hummmm…......whales

well usama, before the civil rights act it was unamerican for black people to marry white people. it is hard for me to understand how someonelike you usama, who has been bullied and picked on their whole life becasue of your name and religion, could have such a biast against the civil rights of gays based on religion. think people. gays arent animals, or less than we are. they deserve everything else that a normal couple would have. this is america people. land of the free home of the brave, and to think that in these times we still are fighting over the civil rights of people based on their sexual orientation is ridiculous. how can we go across the globe spreading ideals of civil rights and equality when we ourselves have issues at home. and you cannot compare incest, pedofillia, or rapists to gays. its ridiculous. they have done nothing wrong to you. just because your morals dont meet theirs we should take away their civil rights? does that mean that if im republican then no democrats should have civil rights? or if im a christian no muslims should have the right to marry?

just something to think about

Buckethead said...

I have one question to you Usamah. Have you made a concious descision to fall in love with every person you have ever fell in love with? Did you just look at that person and decide, yep, I love them? I have a feeling that it was probably something deeper. You don't personally choose who you love, you just fall in love with them. Most gay people don't decide to be gay, they just fall in love with someone who happens to be the same sex. There was no deliberate decision here.

I am also guessing this is a religoius thing for you. If it is not then skip this part. Your religion says not to eat pork. So are you going to try to force your belief on others? Your religion may forbid something, but that doesn't mean evryone has to obide by it's rules. I can still see your side though.

I have to go right now, but I will post the rest when i get back.

JuiceBx said...

Well said to the last two posts after mine; we should not be so narrow minded nor think anything that has to tie with religion. The reason why I don’t like gays is because, in my experience not religion, gay people are more sexually aggressive. I have had times when gays would come up to me and do uncomfortable things, that is why I am against gay rights. This is logic this is through experience, not from the rules of a book.

but jassem thats not a legit arguement. if a girl i didnt like with blond hair and braces made aggresive sexual moves twords me and i didnt like her does that mean that i shouldnt like blonds or girls with brcaes? no. and thats just like saying there are some extremist muslim groups out there that i see on the news so i should hate all muslims and their all terrorists. gays are people too. plus something that people dont realise is that in nature everyone has gay tendencies, the question is whether you have massive ones or unconcious ones. plus most people who are gay have an extra chromosone which boosts these inmpulses off the spectrum. just like how if you have an extra x chromosone then you will have down syndrome. nobody grows up saying that they want to be riddiculed and go against nature, they are born that way. exceptions being stupid teenagers who say theyre bi. those kids are just dumb and striving for attention. lets all try to be a little more tolerant and a little less hateful. afterall this is the year 2009. i mean if we have the tollerance for a black president then why cant we stand for two men who have have nothing to do with you be married?

just my .02 cents

Buckethead said...

JuiceBx, you are basing you thought of gays that is based off of your little experiance with gay people. This is they same type of discrimination that people are trying to prevent. If one Mexican mugs me, that doesn't mean that all Mexicans are going to mug me. If Muslims kill themselves in an attempt to kill civilians, that obviously doesn't mean that all Muslims are suicide bombers.

Buckethead said...

Also there are many gay people that nobody knows are gay.

If I was against gay rights, I would be narrow minded as Whaleologist Doctor Ned Fadeley. In a sense, I’m helping the people I don’t like. Now why am I being looked at as a dictator who wants to change the rules for their own selfish ways? Gay people have rights just like you and me, we should not take that away even when the fire of hate takes over our minds. "A man who hates will never see."

To Whaleologist Doctor Ned Fadeley's comment I agree with him. Now i dont know what to say. But everyone keeps saying we should tolerate it tolerate it tolerate it tolerate it. Maybe I dont want to tolerate it. Whens the time not to tolerate it? When the majority of people dont like it? I think that if gays can get married then sons should be able to marry their dads, moms, grandparents etc. I mean its love right? We dont choose who we love I hear.

We Middle East Beasts Plays For Keeps, yoe foows said...

Hello, Jake and Donovan this is not about me being a Muslim or anything else, this is about certain civil rights that should not be allowed, not because it says it in any US document, but because it is not American. How many rules, laws and standards are not specified in any of our legal documents but are at the heart of our country everyday? So if a father “truly” falls in love with his son, that is whatever age, and wants to marry him, if he could it would be considered his civil right to do so. But he can't, not because the constitution says so, not because George Washington said so, but because America said so. And if its “true love” and they are soul mates then they can go to a country that allows that or doesn’t care. Were Americans in America and we cant start changing our core morels based on the fact that were a free country, because in many ways were not. You can’t marry 10 women here, nor can you use your daughters as sex slaves because its “true love”, it’s America and that’s just not allowed. And Jake our country has changed many of it rules that were unfair and unjust, but we can’t change our core morels and standards because enough people support it and it doesn’t say anything about it in our documents. Many of our rules and laws were created and supported from those core values and morels that are not written on paper, but written in the American mind. So if a majority of people in our country were Muslims we would start changing the laws that fit their preference of civil rights huh? Porn-gone, interest-gone, gambling-gone, sex oriented school, ect..ect. Your going down a slippery slope American should have never been on. We change some things in our country and some things won’t ever!

There is my professional opinion of Oxford level 27 Debating principles......not so hot on English that’s why I was kicked to the sea.

Buckethead said...

Though I bet that when people use theor daughters as sex slaves, it is a one sided love. The father may "love" the daughter, but the daughter probably won't love the father back in that way.If she did she wouldn't be a sex "slave". Nor could I see a father-son relationship that is based off of the love of both sides of the relationship (keep in mind weather the child is old enough to make this kind of descision by themsleves). That being said even if the relationship is mutaul, i wouldn't agree with it. This is a moral argument and in my mind I cannot compare gay people to incest. I can see your point. I don't agree with gays, but they are hurting nobody. Allowing them to marry isn't in any way going to make my life worse or anybody else's for that matter. If parents want to marry their kids they can force them to agree to marry them at a young age. Parents have a huge influence on their children and it would make it easier to manipulate their children. Gay people on the other hand don't have this kind of power over their partner.

I'm not sure if what I am saying made sense to anyone else, but it does to me.

Donovan being gay, or supporting is a morel argument. How can you not compare it to incest wether it is homosexual or not it is a americans choice of his or hers marriage and his or her's choice to agree with the marriage. IM not talking about a 10 years old and his father. So from your side "true love" is true love and it is their right to have incest. Once you allow gay marriage you must consider incest on the basis of your argument. It is not your choice of who they marry, according to what your saying, from what I understand. It is most certainly comparable and if enough people 1000 years from now want to make incest legal there is nothing stopping them from the basis of how you support and allow gay marriage in america.

JuiceBx said...

The Number 12 Looks Like Brandon, shut up. Gay marriage and parent child marriage are two different things. Children are usually manipulated to marry the parent and most likely being treated like an actual spouse which is wrong, but gays love each other without being manipulate by their partner. Therefore nothing is wrong, and we should make a law for this parent child marriage instead.

The Number 12 Looks Like Brandon said...

OK you shut up JuiceBox! It is very plausible to love your father or mother, just as plausible to love another man. you cannot say the only reason children marry there parent is because they are manipulated. Maybe they love each other shouldn't you be able to love anyone you want. Who are you to say it is not right to love your parent sexually, but it is ok to love another man? Its called incest and it is actually more common then people know. So what is wrong with a little love i mean if the gays can do it why can't fathers and daughters.

The dog lets Brandon bark at noon said...

Hey jassem no need for hate. I love you.

JuiceBx said...

Really? What has been complained more, gays or sexual abuse from parents? Think about it, parents who “love” their children (not teenagers) have been reported to be sexual abusing them against the child’s own will. It is true that parents and teenagers have fallen in love with each other, but kids don’t really know what love is. It is easy to fool a child and make them think what you want them to think, but a teenager has experience in life and knows right from wrong. “here we go again” remember that gays usually get married just like a ordinary couple does, when they are adults. Brandon, that is a uncomfortable comment.

Whaler, even when they are adults they still have the right to marry each other, even if their “love” is “un-American.” (Whaler, I totally back you up but somebody has got to stand up for their rights. Think of the coaches in “Remember the Titans,” someone needs to stand up for the ones who need help.)
